How Sealants Are Used in Industrial Applications

Sealants play a crucial role in various industrial applications, where they are used to create durable and long-lasting seals, bonds, and protective barriers. The specific use of sealants in industrial settings can vary widely depending on the application, but here are some common industrial uses for sealants:

  • Bonding and Sealing: PURHybrid Sealants have high elasticity and tenacious bond strength, which makes them perfect for bonding applications where dynamic movement occurs, whether that be from thermal movement, or shock & vibration.  PURfect Hybrids can be formulated with high tensile strength, enabling strong, long-lasting bonds.
  • Gasketing: InnoStar offers two types of gasketing solutions, both liquid, “form-in-place” or seam-sealing solutions; or dry converted gaskets.  The gaskets can address multiple requirements, such as air/water penetration (sealing), thermal management, EMI/RFI shielding, cushioning and/or gap filling.
  • Sound Damping: InnoStar offers two types of gasketing solutions, both liquid, “form-in-place” or seam-sealing solutions; or dry converted gaskets.  The gaskets can address multiple requirements, such as air/water penetration (sealing), thermal management, EMI/RFI shielding, cushioning and/or gap filling.

Ideal sound damping materials are elastic, conformable and excellent gap fillers.  Elasticity is needed to dampen vibration and conformability and gap-filling is absolutely required to effectively block sound.  Any air-gap will dramatically reduce a structure’s ability to block sound waves.

  • Concrete Construction: PURHybrid 800 is often used in concrete construction applications due to it’s aggressive, primerless adhesion; joint movement capability, and high tensile strength.  This enables durable, long-lasting seals and helps manage thermal movement.  Long Open Time (LOT) and self-leveling versions are available. Contact InnoStar for more details on the chemical resistance characteristics of a particular sealant.  Chemical resistance is a function of concentration, exposure duration, and temperature, among other factors, and each application can be unique.
  • Potting and Encapsulation: InnoStar custom formulates epoxy, acrylic, polyurethane, or hybrid pottants and encapsulants based on the specific application requirements.  Contact InnoStar for product suggestions.
  • Chemical Resistance: Sealants formulated to resist specific chemicals are used in chemical processing plants and laboratories to create seals and protective barriers that can withstand exposure to corrosive substances.
  • Food & Pharma: InnoStar butyl and PURHybrid sealants are FDA and CFA approved for use in food contact applications.
